Laminate, Acrylic or Veneer? A Simple Finish Guide

Three of the most common shutter finishes — what each looks like, where it suits, and what to ask before you choose.

The finish is what you see and touch every day. Each has a different look, maintenance routine and best use — there is no single 'best' material.

Laminate

The most versatile option, available in solid colours, woodgrains and textures, in matte and gloss. A practical choice for wardrobes and kitchens in busy homes.

Acrylic

A smooth, reflective surface with deep colour, popular for contemporary kitchens. Gloss finishes show fingerprints more readily; matte versions are also available.

Veneer

Real timber with natural grain, so every sheet is slightly different. Suited to feature walls, wardrobes and furniture where warmth matters.

Choose finishes in the room's real light — samples look different on a showroom table than on your wall.

What to ask before choosing

Where will it be used? How much daylight does the room get? How is it cleaned? Will it sit near water or heat? Bring these questions to your material selection meeting.
